"Is a Global Village compatible with Nations ?"
The free flow of information and people has marked the great wave of globalization from the late 20th century which culminated with Germany accepting a million refugees from Syria and other poor countries in 2015.
Since then, immigration has become a main theme contributing to the various national politics in a very polarized fashion as evidenced by the Brexit referendum, the rise of nationalist parties and the election of President Trump ("Build the Wall").
It is a very divisive topic where people disagree on the merits of immigration whether on economic ground or on humanitarian ground. Some even consider it to be a solution for collapsing Demographics regardless of which population comes to replace the ageing natives.
Immigration goes beyond ideologies as it has far-reaching implications on the recipient countries' healthcare, education, labor markets, demographics and ultimately national policy-making. It also has deep consequences on the religious and linguistics composition and ultimately the overall balance of a society.
In this section we explore these different aspects and try to anticipate the future of immigration.
