"Big Pharma versus Covid-19: Who pays the bill ?"
The globalization of the world economy has greatly benefited a large number of emerging economies and by doing so it has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty.
Healthcare in these emerging economies has greatly improved and even led to the development of medical tourism in some cases.
Meanwhile healthcare in the developed economies has benefited from the technological advances but also suffered public budget cutbacks over the years while the production of a large number of drugs has been outsourced to emerging countries like India and China.
These developments have increased the life expectancy of the world's population but also the costs of healthcare coverage have increased tremendously. Healthcare along with Housing and Education represent the most significant expenses for a household and naturally become hot political topics.
Last but not least the economic tsunami provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic is the most negative evidence of the relationship between healthcare and globalization.
In this section we explore these trends and extrapolate their consequences on other fields of study.
