Finance

"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?"

Finance is the lifeblood of all human activities from retail payments to funding the private and public sectors. It exists in different forms and shapes in every political and economic system.

Its ecosystem as well as its regulatory framework have evolved tremendously since the GFC, so in this section we explore its striking features and upcoming challenges through its main components:

  • The Sell-side with the banking system and the primary markets where financial players raise funds.
  • The Buy-side with the asset and wealth managers.
  • The Global Markets where risks abound and where each asset class has a distinct behavior in the current environment.
  • The Regulators and the Central Banks who have had a profound impact on the market structure, the risk appetite, and the biodiversity of the financial ecosystem over the last 15 years, sometimes with unintended consequences.

But Finance is not just about Western Finance: new payment systems are being developed in China and Russia as the backbones of possible alternatives to SWIFT with far-reaching consequences.

In this section we investigate the trends and issues of Western Finance but as well how Finance is a vector of geopolitcial influence in a multipolar world.
