Media used to refer to TV and newspapers whose business model and credibility were based on a Code of Ethics to report fact-based information. If they usually adopted a certain political bias, they retained nonetheless high editorial standards.
This era is long time gone and the I.T. boom has led to an exponential increase of media outlets whose objective consists of capturing as much social attention as possible regardless of the quality of the contents they carry.
Social media added an individual dimension to these outlets now contributing to an infinite amount of daily feeds in a highly polarized socio-political atmosphere.
The technology also allows fabricating and broadcasting news to influence people's opinion potentially following the great traditions of propaganda, deception and subversion.
In this section, we analyze the media ecosystem in its variety and contemplate its future influence on the social and economic fields.
